Gym Journal - Leah Vining and Shannon Walpole
Oct. 25, 2007
October, our third month of college, and we are finally getting the hang of the whole college thing. We started the month off with mid-terms followed by two community service events and caught a much needed rest during our fall break. Mid-terms were pretty much what we expected, challenging and hectic. It was difficult trying to juggle practice, school and our usual weekly chores while mixing in extra study time. Although once we were finished we felt very accomplished and were relieved to see how well we managed. This first true test of our academic abilities taught us freshman how important it is to plan ahead and manage our time wisely. This month our team took advantage of two chances to show our community how grateful we are for their support. First, we helped out at Auburn Early Education Family Fun Night by handing out candy, working games like miniature golf, and making sure everyone had a great night in a fun and safe environment. It was a wonderful way for Auburn gymnastics and other Auburn athletic teams to show our community how much we care. Our second team service event was on Oct. 13. We were given the opportunity to show our appreciation for all the hard work Auburn Gymnastics Academy's coaches and families put into our home meets. We had the privilege of assisting them with their first meet of the season, the AGA Kickoff Classic. This event was especially fun to work. Watching all the girls compete brought back many special memories of competing in club gymnastics and got us pumped thinking about our upcoming competitive season as first-time collegiate gymnasts. With competition season just around the corner and our first semester of college more than halfway completed we really enjoyed a free weekend for fall break. A few girls got to enjoy a couple days of home cooked meals, free laundry service and all the little things we take for granted. Although some did not have the time to make it home and back, they were just as thankful for our long relaxing weekend.
Wow, what a busy and exciting month! |
