State College, Penn. - The Auburn gymnastics team arrived in State College, Penn., Friday for the NCAA Northeast Gymnastics Regional. The Tigers will compete as the number two seed on Saturday, April 12, at 5 p.m., CT, in Rec Hall at Penn State University.

The Tigers will compete with number one seed Georgia, number three seed Denver and Penn State, Brigham Young University and Iowa State, who are the four, five and six seeds, respectively.

The Tigers compete in their sixth-consecutive Regional under the tutelage of head coach Jeff Thompson. This is Auburn's second consecutive trip to the Northeast Regional site.

Last year the Tigers competed at West Virginia and plagued with injuries, finished fifth scoring 193.950. Twelfth ranked Auburn looks to earn its first NCAA Championship berth since 2003. The two top-scoring teams from each regional site will advance to the Championship in Athens on April 24-26.

For the third time in 2008, the Tigers will face conference foe Georgia, who is the number one seed at the Northeast Regional, and ranked as the number one team in the country. The Tigers will compete with the Denver Pioneers for the second time this season.

Auburn meets with host Penn State for the first time in over a decade. The last time the two met was in 1996. Auburn last saw Iowa State and Brigham Young in 2007 at the Cancun Classic. The Tigers took second followed by Iowa State and BYU.
