No. 12 Gym Scores Season High 196.600 in Win at No. 13 Denver

Denver, Colo. - The No. 12 Auburn gymnastics team (5-6, 0-6 SEC) scored a season 196.600 in its win over No. 13 Denver (10-4), 196.575. Additionally, Julie Dwyer set an Auburn high on vault on the team's way to scoring a program high on vault. "I am so proud of the way the team fought all day," said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. "Two meets in a row now we have hit all of our bar routines. That got us off to a great start and the momentum definitely carried over to vault and floor. To comeback from a four-tenths of a point deficit going into the last event to overcome Denver for the win will give an already outstanding beam team the confidence and the credit they deserve." The Tigers trailed the Pioneers 147.525-147.175 after the third rotation of beam and floor. Auburn scored 49.000 on floor to Denver's 49.275 on beam. In the fourth rotation, the Tigers scored a season high 49.425 on beam, the second highest score in Auburn history, to seal the win. The Tigers scored 48.675 on bars, and followed that with the highest vault score in program history 49.500. Dwyer and Lindsey Puckett both topped the record books on the teams' way to the high score. Dwyer captured first place as she surpassed a her own school record with a 9.975 on vault. Puckett placed second and also set a career high 9.950, which was the previous school record. Two other Tigers tied a career high on vault. A.J. Mills hit a 9.900 and Claire Seiffert hit 9.850. Dwyer also captured the beam title with a 9.950. Dwyer placed third in the all-around scoring 39.425. Mills scored second in the all-around with a 39.475, placing in the top-three of three events. She tied for third on bars with a 9.825. Mills tied with teammate Puckett for second on beam, each scoring 9.925. She tied Dwyer, and Krissy Voss for third on floor scoring 9.825.
Auburn will travel to Norman, Okla., on March 7, to take on Oklahoma State. Auburn will return to the Plains on March 14 to host Michigan State for Senior Night, where Auburn will honor its four seniors, Dwyer, Kayla Gies, Aimee Goheen and Karmen Pinckney. Results |
