No. 10 Auburn Drops Meet To No. 1 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - For the second week in a row, the No. 10 Auburn Tigers' opponent recorded the highest score in the nation as AU fell to No. 1 Florida, 197.650-195.625. The loss drops the Tigers to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, while the Gators moved to 8-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the SEC. "We bring out the best in all of our opponents," head coach Jeff Thompson said. "I was disappointed with the way we finished on beam. A.J. was outstanding on beam, however, and she keeps getting better every week. Julie had another great meet, and she continues to be our anchor." Junior Julie Dwyer took home a tie for second in the all-around with a 39.500, tying for the fourth highest score in Sophomore A.J. Mills tied for first on beam with a 9.900, earning her second straight beam title. Mills also took fourth in the all-around with a 39.350, her second highest career score.
Freshman Krissy Voss pulled through with a solid meet as well, scoring a career high of 39.000 in the all-around. The Tigers opened the dual meet on bars and scored a 48.950. Lindsey Puckett and Julie Dwyer co-led AU after each posted scores of 9.825. A.J. Mills followed with a solid score of 9.800, while Alicia Lenkiewicz and Krissy Voss each registered scores of 9.750. Jackie Smith, competing in the bar lineup for the first time since Feb. 2, 2005, recorded a 9.725. On the second rotation, trailing 49.300-48.950, AU totaled a 49.125 on vault, its second highest score of the season. Trailing 98.700-98.075, the Tigers headed into the third rotation where they posted a 49.150 on floor, their second best score of the season. Dwyer led the way with a 9.875, followed by Mills, who earned a career-high score of 9.850 and Puckett, who also delivered a 9.850. Voss totaled a 9.800, a career high, while Carmen Nelms finished up the scoring for The Tigers will have a week off before hosting LSU on Friday, Feb. 16 at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. Central. |
