March 18, 2008
Birmingham, Ala. - Junior DeWanna Bonner was named First Team All-SEC by the Associated Press on Tuesday. Classmate Sherell Hobbs earned an honorable mention nod. Bonner, a native of Fairfield, Ala., leads Auburn on both sides of the ball. She is the league's second leading scorer with 18.5 points and grabs an SEC best 10.2 rebounds per game. Both averages rank her in the top 30 in the nation. Bonner has been Auburn's leading scorer in 17 of the 30 contests she has played in and has notched 15 double-doubles in that span. Bonner also finds herself in the top 10 in the SEC in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals, blocks, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds. An All-America candidate, Bonner currently ranks ninth all-time at Auburn in scoring with 1,430 points and is 10th in rebounding with 752 boards. She is one of only six players ever to be in the top 10 in both categories. She ranks second in career free throws made (379) and second on the season free throws made (165) list. Bonner is on pace to become just the second ever Auburn player to lead Auburn in scoring and rebounding three consecutive years. Sherell Hobbs, a native of Huntsville, Ala., leads Auburn in steals (73), while also averaging 13.2 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. Her scoring average ranks eighth in the SEC and she is also in the top 10 in field goal percentage and steals. Hobbs went a span of 17 games this season where she scored in double figures and has led the Tigers in that category seven times. Hobbs is currently ranked 28th at Auburn in scoring with 955 points and is 10th on the career steals list with 166 grabs. She is 10th on the season record books for steals with 73.
