Kerry Cremeans came to Auburn in the spring of 2004 with 10 years of coaching experience to her credit and is considered one of the top recruiters in the country as she enters her fourth season with the Tigers. A 1994 graduate of Florida and four-year basketball letterwinner, Cremeans worked as an assistant for her alma mater in 2003-04, but has direct ties to head coach Nell Fortner, which brought her to the Plains. Cremeans served on Fortner's staff as an assistant at Purdue in 1996-97 and went on to become the top recruiter for the Boilermakers before heading to Florida. While at Purdue, the Boilermakers went an impressive 181-49 and the team advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament in each season. In 1999, the team played to an unprecedented 34-1 record and captured the NCAA title. In addition to that title, Purdue finished as a runner up in the tournament in 2001. Cremeans was instrumental in the team's success during those seven years at Purdue, including helping lead them to four Big Ten Tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003) and three regular season conference titles (1999, 2001 and 2002). The Gators made great strides in 2003-04 with Cremeans' help, as Florida improved from 9-19 in 2002-03 with a 1-13 SEC mark, to 19-11 overall and 8-6 in conference play in 2003-04. Florida also advanced into the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2003-04. At Florida, Cremeans earned her degree in exercise science in 1994 and was a GTE Academic All-American. In 2004, she earned her Master's in Sport Management at Kentucky. As a player, she helped lead the Gators to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, which were the first two in the school's history. Individually, Cremeans ended her career at Florida as the all-time three-point leader. The Wheelersburg, Ohio, native graduated from Wheelersburg High School in 1990. |
