Awendaw, S.C. - The No. 14 Auburn men's golf team carded a 2-over 286 and is tied for fifth after the first round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay at the par-71, 7,282-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. Jay Moseley is in a nine-way tie for seventh after leading the Tigers with a 1-under 70. Glenn Northcutt (71) is tied for 16th, followed by Jamie Bowen (72) in a tie for 22nd. Patton Kizzire (73) and Gordon Strother (73) are tied for 34th. "It was a good day for us," said head coach Mike Griffin. "It's been real windy out here. The winds yesterday were moving in completely the opposite direction. That can create up to a 50-yard adjustment on some of these holes from day-to-day. "For our guys who have never played this course before to come into this environment and shoot like they did - I was real pleased." No. 16 South Carolina carded a 4-under 280 and is in the lead followed by Augusta State (284), No. 9 Florida (285), No. 21 Clemson 285), Auburn (286), Lamar (286), NC State (288), Virginia Tech (290), LSU (290), Charleston (291), No. 17 Wake Forest (291), No. 18 UCF (291), No. 12 Duke (294), Kentucky (296) and Baylor (306). Lamar's Justin Harding carded a 4-under 67 and is in the individual lead. Augusta State's Keith Guest and (68) and Wake Forest's Webb Simpson (68) are tied for second. The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues with the second round Monday morning. Auburn is first out of the gates, teeing off the front nine at 11 am CST with Clemson and Lamar.
