Tristan Davis Named SEC Special Teams Player Of The Week
Nov. 10, 2008
AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn senior Tristan Davis has been named the Southeastern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Davis was honored following Auburn's 37-20 victory over UT Martin Saturday. Davis returned the opening kickoff against UT Martin 95 yards for a touchdown, giving him his second kickoff return for a score this season. He became the first Auburn player dating back to 1970 to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in the same season. Davis is averaging 30.9 yards per return this season, which leads the SEC and ranks fourth nationally, and is on pace to break the Auburn single-season record for kickoff return average. He has improved his career average to 27.6 yards per return, which is also tops in school history. Davis, who set an Auburn single-game record with 182 kickoff return yards including a 97-yarder against Arkansas Oct. 11, now ranks third in Auburn history with 1324 career kickoff return yards. Davis is the third Auburn player to be honored with an SEC weekly award this season. Jason Bosley was honored as the league's Offensive Lineman of the Week following Auburn's victory over Southern Miss Sept. 6, and Antonio Coleman was recognized as SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Tigers' victory over Tennessee Sept. 27. Auburn (5-5, 2-4 SEC) returns to action Saturday when the Tigers host No. 13 Georgia (8-2, 5-2 SEC). The game kicks off at 11:30 a.m. CT and will be televised by Raycom.
