AUBURN, Ala. - Former Auburn great Frank Thomas hit the 500th home run of his career on Thursday afternoon, becoming the 21st major league baseball player to reach the milestone.

Thomas, who played at Auburn from 1987-89 under coach Hal Baird, launched his historic shot in the top of the first inning, driving a 1-2 Carlos Silva pitch over the left-field wall. The homer, which coincidentally came in the same stadium where Thomas hit his first career home run, the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn., was the 13th of the season for the 17-year MLB veteran.
