AUBURN, Ala. - Trent Mummey was named a 2009 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Award Winner on Thursday morning for his defensive work as Auburn's everyday centerfielder.

Mummey, who started all 56 games in 2009 and was also named to the SEC All-Defensive Team, had an astounding .995 fielding percentage this past season, leading Auburn's outfielders with seven outfield assists and 178 putouts while committing just a single error.

"Trent had an exceptional year patrolling the outfield for us this year," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "He has worked very hard on his game and I am very proud of him for this accomplishment."

The award, which is in its third year, goes to the player recognized by coaches across the country as the best defensive player at his position in the nation.

Mummey also had a solid year at the plate, hitting .289 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI to go along with 12 doubles and three triples, leading the team with 17 steals.

Rawlings has been the longtime sponsor of the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and All-American teams. The ABCA All-American Committees select the Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners in their respective divisions.
