Clete Thomas AUBURN - Auburn rising junior Clete Thomas was one of nine collegiate players to be recently invited to participate in the 2004 USA Baseball National Team Trials, to be held June 20-26, in Durham, N.C. The USA Baseball National Team will be selected from a pool of up to 36 players, of which 28 have now been determined. The official 20-man team roster will be announced on June 27. Thomas hit .329 this past season with 16 doubles, four home runs, 24 stolen bases and 45 runs batted in while starting all 56 games. A Lynn Haven, Fla., native, Thomas led Auburn in six statistical categories: average (.329), runs (53), hits (71), triples (6), slugging percentage (.514) and stolen bases (24). The 2004 USA Baseball National Team will open play on Wednesday, June 23 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7 p.m. versus Canada. Team USA will also play an additional seven games in Durham, along with several more domestic exhibition games prior to representing the United States at 2004 II FISU World University Baseball Championships in Chinese Taipei, July 23-August 1.
