Auburn Baseball Awarded Regional Host Site
Auburn Baseball Awarded Regional Host Site May 25, 2003
Samford Stadium and Hitchcock Field at Plainsman Park The host site marks the third time in school history and first time since 1999 that Auburn has hosted an NCAA Regional. Auburn hosted a NCAA Regional in 1999 and the NCAA South Regional in 1978. "It's a great day for Auburn and the baseball program to bring a regional back to Auburn," Auburn head coach Steve Renfroe said. "It was nice that we were awarded a regional the same year that our peers voted our facility No. 1 in the country. Our administration did a great job of preparing the bid and our players did the rest on the field. We're very excited and are looking forward to hosting." Auburn, which is 40-19 on the season, finished second in the Southeastern Conference's Western Division with an 18-12 record. The Tigers will be making their seventh consecutive regional appearance and their 16th NCAA postseason trip overall. "I think it's pretty exciting," Auburn senior pitcher Levale Speigner said. "It will be nice to play in our stadium and in front of our fans. The Auburn fans will be here to support us and that certainly should be an advantage."
