AUBURN - Auburn's Jacob Dunkleberger has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's track and field/cross country first team.

Dunkleberger, a native of Smyrna, Ga., graduated from Auburn in May with a bachelor of science in business administration, majoring in logistics and business administration. He completed his undergraduate work with a 3.48 cumulative grade-point average.

Dunkleberger is a seven-time All-American who was the 2007 national champion in the hammer throw and the runner-up in 2008. He was also the SEC Champion and national runner-up in the weight throw during the 2008 indoor season.

Dunkleberger was second in the hammer throw at the Mideast Regional Championships and the SEC Championships in each of the last two years. He ranks second in Auburn history in the hammer throw and weight throw, seventh in the indoor shot put and eighth in the outdoor shot put.

Dunkleberger is the first Auburn track and field athlete to earn first-team Academic All-American honors since Angela Homan in 2006.

To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve on their teams, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. The District IV team is complied of athletes in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
