Forty-Three Auburn Student-Athletes Named To SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll
July 8, 2008 AUBURN - Forty-three Auburn student-athletes from 15 sports have been named to the Southeastern Conference's Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday. Each student-athlete named to the honor roll must have a 3.0 GPA, be a letterwinner, have completed 24 credit hours and be a member of the team for the entire season. Grades are based on the 2007-08 academic year. Equestrian placed the most student-athletes on the honor roll with six. They include Elise Fraza (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Shannon Hinton (Animal Sciences-Pre Vet), Alexandra Loprete (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Paige Monfore (Undeclared Sciences and Mathematics), Anna Schierholz (Journalism) and Sarah Whitaker (Animal Sciences-Equine). The Auburn baseball team saw five of its athletes honors. They are Justin Hargett (Exercise Science), Jon Jacobs (Exrecise Science), Cory Luckie (Pre-Chemical Engineering), Chris O'Neil (Pre-Business) and Kevin Patterson (Health Promotion). The Auburn soccer, women's swimming and women's track each had four athletes honored. For soccer, selected were Heather Havron (Pre-Business), Addie Ragsdale (Pre-Graphic Design), Sammy Towne (Undeclared Liberal Arts) and Jaime Wheeler (Undeclared Liberal Arts). Honored from the women's swimming team were Julie Golden (Exercise Science), Erica Meissner (Undeclared Liberal Arts), Melanie Roberts (Undeclared Sciences and Mathematics) and Josefin Wede (Animal Sciences-Pre Vet). The following student-athletes were selected from women's track and field: Erika Akins (Pre-Electrical Engineering), Cathryn Albright (Pre-Elementary Education), Madeleine Collins (General Social Science Education) and Hollie Knight (Undeclared Sciences and Mathematics). Three other sports claimed three spots on the list. Jared Cooper (General Social Science Education), Ryan Pugh (Pre-Building Science) and Bailey Woods (Public Administration) were selected from the football team, while Katie Colton (Pre-Business), Aurora Salter (General Social Science Education) and Cassie Trosclair (Pre-Nursing Science) represented the softball team. Adam Klein (Pre-Business), Robert Looney (Pre-Business) and Andrew Mitchell (Undeclared Sciences and Mathematics) were honored from the men's swimming team. Four sports claimed two spots each on the list. Rosson Anderson (Pre-Business) and Cory Gilmer (Pre-Business) were selected from the men's golf team as Cydney Clanton (Pre-Business) and Sarah Thead (Economics) were honored from the women's golf team. Gymnastics put Lauren Brzostowski (Apparel Merchandising, Product Design and Management) and Leah Vining (Exercise Science) on the team while volleyball placed Milena Bukinac (Molecular Biology) and Lauren Mellor (Apparel Merchandising, Product Design and Management). Rounding out the list were women's basketball's Ruth Ketcham (Health Promotion), women's tennis' Dunja Djuranovic (Pre-Architecture) and men's track's Joseph Peake (Applied Mathematics). |
