McWhorter_01 The McWhorter Center for Women's Athletics officially opened its doors in January of 2001. The 44,000 square foot building is home to the Auburn University Gymnastics team and the Softball team.

"We have everything we need to train and more," Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Thompson said. "It is the finest facility in the country, and maybe the world. This is what other programs are going to try to top when they design new facilities."

Banners: Ten banners, as well as a Tiger Eye mural were added prior to the 2010 season. The banners feature 16 former Tiger gymnasts, and include All-Americans, All-SEC performers and Auburn record holders. Among those honored include: A.J. Mills, Barbie Andrzejewski, Danielle Pitts, Heather Brown, Kerry Ragens, Lindsey Puckett, Becky Erwin, Sarah Wentworth, Courtney Puckett, Julie Dwyer, Natica Johnson, Rachel Tarantino, Kristi Boyle, Shannon Edmondson, Sally Cantrell, and Lisa Grieco.

Locker Room: The carpeted locker room area has wooden lockers for each student-athlete, individually stalled showers, restrooms, as well as a state-of-the-art stereo system. The door of the locker room is coded to give the gymnasts access to the locker room at all times.

McWhorter_01   Team Room: The lounge contains a television, a VCR for viewing meet tapes, and a computer with internet access for homework, research, and e-mail. Chairs, tables, and a couch provide a great atmosphere for team meetings and post-meet events.

Athletic Training Room: The training room consists of taping tables, a whirlpool, ice machine, and various rehabilitation equipment. Student Athletes use the training room before and after practices and meets. The gymnastics team has a full time certified athletic trainer to supervise all activities.

Coaches Offices: Each gymnastics coach has their own office in the McWhorter Center. The offices are located on the second floor of the building and have windows that overlook.

Gymnastics Practice Facility: The 14,770 square foot training area was designed for the overall safety of the student-athletes. The gym's nine resi-pits and four loose foam pits make it easy to avoid hard landings during everyday training. The facility includes:

  • Three vaulting areas
  • Four uneven bars
  • Two single bars
  • A channel (trench) bar and trampoline bar station
  • Seven balance beams
  • Two tumbling strips
  • A forty foot in-ground Tumbl-Trak
  • A trampoline vault station with two in-ground trampolines

The McWhorter Center for Women's Athletics provides some of the best resources to Auburn student athletes and we feel that it is one of the finest facilities in the country. It inspires a source of honor and pride to wear the orange and blue and be an Auburn Tiger!
